Agate Centre
From Research to Solutions
Agate Centre is a new research centre in Algorithmic Game Theory in Socioeconomics (AGATE), established at the School of Computer Science, Charles University in Prague.
Founded in 2025 as an ERA Chair project, it is led by ERA Chair holder Michel Grabisch together with Agate coordinator Martin Loebl.
Agate centre advances research excellence in algorithmic game theory and transforms it into innovation with real impact on business, society, and the digital economy.

Agate Centre is driven by two key motivations:
1. Scientific Shift Toward Socio-Economic Applications
Computer science is undergoing a “gold rush” towards socio-economic applications — a fast-growing area often referred to as broad algorithmic game theory. To take part in this transformation, we focus on Algorithmic Game Theory in Socioeconomics (AGATE) — a domain that includes:
-
Algorithmic game theory
-
Decision theory
-
Computational social choice and social welfare
-
Fairness optimisation
-
Public administration logistics and indirect mechanisms
-
Socio-economic networks
This interdisciplinary field brings together tools from mathematics, computer science, optimisation, and machine learning. We are also witnessing renewed, direct links between academic research and real-world innovation on a global scale.
2. Connecting Academia with Practice in Czechia
Agate responds to the need for the School of Computer Science at Charles University to lead larger-scale applied research projects in collaboration with the non-academic sector — including major Czech IT companies and national or regional public administrations.
A Centre of Excellence in Game Theory and Decision Science
Agate Centre is a hub of excellence in algorithmic game and decision theory.
It attracts top researchers and students while actively promoting the connection between high-impact research and innovation.
Firmly rooted in leading European research, the Agate Centre builds on global expertise, strengthens Europe’s presence in the field, and elevates Czechia’s position in science, research, and innovation.
